Cub Scout Program Information:
- Cub Scout Ranks. Information on the various cub scout ranks starting with Tiger. This is a good resource for understanding the program and how each year is structured.
- BSA Lion Program. Here is some information on the new Lion program for kindergarteners. Pack 438 was a pilot unit for the Lion program and we are proud to have kindergarteners as part of our program.
- BSA Family Scouting Mission Statement. The BSA is now a family program that embraces both boys and girls in the program. Here is more information on the BSA's current stance on including both genders in the BSA program.
Scout Gear and Camping Gear:
- Uniforms. Our standard source for cub scout uniforms is the official BSA Scout Shop. The standard uniforms for Lions are the official Lion hat and t-shirt. Tigers-Webelos wear the blue uniform and pants with a different hat and neckerchief for each year. Arrow of Light (formerly Webelos II) transition to the tan boy scout uniform shirt and green pants/shorts with plaid Webelos hat and neckerchief in preparation for becoming boy scouts.
- Scoutstuff.org. This is the official BSA Scout Shop link where you can order uniforms, handbooks and other scouting and camping gear.
- REI. REI offers a lifetime Co-op membership for $20.00 which will pay for itself in very short order. You will receive an annual dividend of 10% on purchases as well as regular coupons for 20% (or greater) off and access to member only sales.
- Great Outdoor Provision Company. GOPC is a locally owned business with locations in Chapel Hill, Raleigh and elsewhere. They offer a 10% discount for scouts and every spring they offer a week of 20-25% off for scout families. I highly recommend supporting this local business.
- Hiker Direct. Hiker Direct is the online discount program for scouts offered by Alps Mountaineering. Alps is a family owned business from Missouri. They make OEM products for many other big names and their quality can't be beat for the price. Register for Hiker Direct and you'll receive a huge discount on their products.
- Campmor. Campmor is a great place to purchase tents, boots, sleeping pads and backpacks. They're located in New Jersey and offer fast shipping and great customer service.
- Eureka Camping. Eureka makes great tents as well as sleeping bags, sleeping pads and stoves. They make the ever popular JetBoil for personal cooking and backpacking. Cubmaster Alan's first tent back in 1983 was a Eureka and he swears by their gear.
- Kelty. Kelty makes fantastic tents, backpacks, sleeping bags and other gear. Their gear is well designed and durable at a great price point.
